 D1670/71 Conditional Surrender William Lewis Daniel of Caldicot, co. Mon., shopkeeper came before John Lewis Baldwyn, steward of the manor of Caldicot and Newton and in consideration of £150 paid to him by Edward Albert Sheppard of Chicago Villa, Mellvile Road, Bristol, gent., surrendered 3 messuages (formerly in 2) with a barn, stable and 3 gardens in the village and parish of Caldicot, formerly in the occupation of William Jones, Henry Prior and Thomas Allen, afterwards of Rachel Holmes, Jane James and William Reece and now of Moses John Squibbs, William Reece and John Payne (boundary given) to the use of E.A.S. aforesaid, subject to an indenture of 22 Sep 1880 made between W.L.D. above and E.A.A. With attached note of 12 Nov 1883 re: entry of above on court roll, 30 April 1881. 22 Sep 1880

 D1670/73 Mortgage (with transfer of mortgage and further charge) 29 Apr 1881 1) Moses John Squibbs of par. Caldicot, co. Mon., grocer. 2) William Hay Toye of Chepstow, co. Mon., gent. Recites that (2) has agreed to lend to (1) £450. Consideration £450. (1) to surrender to the lord of the manor of Caldicot cum Newton the property described in D1670/71 to the use of (2), with a proviso for making void the surrender if (1) pays to (2) by 29 Oct., 1881 the afore-said sum with interest at 4 1/2%; (2) to be able to sell the property if he so wishes. Endorsed: Transfer of Mortgage, 30 Aug 1886 a) Isabella Mary Talbot of Mounton, near Chepstow, co. Mon., wife of John Talbot of the same place, farmer. b) Moses John Squibbs of par. Caldicot, grocer. c) Charles Bevan of Bristol, gent. Recites death of William Hay Toye on 1 May, 1885, intestate and a bachelor, leaving (a), his only sister, as his heiress, letters of administration being granted her on 8 July, 1885; that W.H.T. and (a) were not admitted tenants to the above property; that (b) has built several additions, such as the conversion of the barn into a cottage and the erection of 2 additional cottages; that the sum of £450 remains owing to (a) although the interest has been paid; that (c) has agreed to pay to (a) £450 on a transfer of the mortgage and to lend to (b) a further sum of £150. (a) conveys to (c) the above £450 sum with interest; (b) agrees with (c) to pay to (c) on 21 Dec., 1886 the sum of £600 with interest at 5%;(b) also agrees with (c) to surrender to the lord of the manor the above premises to the use of (c).  D1670/74 Conditional Surrender Moses John Squibbs of Caldicot, co. Mon., shopkeeper, came before John Lewis Baldwyn, steward of the manor of Caldicot and Newton and, in consideration of £450 paid to M.J.S. by William Hay Towe of Chepstow, co. Mon., solicitor, surrendered the property cited in D1670/71 formerly in the occupation of Rachel Holmes, Jane James and William Reece but now of M.J.S., William Reece and John Payne, mearing to the highway from Caldicot Cross to the parish church, to premises formerly of Her Majesty but now of Edwin Prior, to the use of W.H.T., subject to an indenture of 29 April, 1881 made between M.J.S. and W.H.T. 30 Apr 1881 

 D1670/75 Surrender and Admission William Lewis Daniel of Caldicot, co. Mon., shopkeeper came before John Lewis Baldwyn, steward of the manor of Caldicot and Newton and, in consideration of £540 paid by Moses John Squibbs of Caldicot, shopkeeper to W.L.D., surrendered the property cited in D1670/71 (for former occupation and boundaries, see D1670/74), to the use of M.J.S. and which was granted to M.J.S for a fine of £0.2.6. Endorsed: 4 memorandum re: conveyances of 26 Nov 1929 a) Ernest Robert Squibbs and Wyndham Leonard Robert Squibbs (as personal representatives of M.J.S., dec'd.) conveyed a piece of land with messuage, shop and buildings (part of the above property) in fee simple to Ellen Louisa Thompson of the Cross, Caldicot, wid. b) A piece of land with 2 messuages and buildings thereon (part of the above property) similarly conveyed to Lily Christina King of the Cross, Caldicot. c) A piece of land with 2 lock-up shops thereon (part of the above property) similarly conveyed to Violet Jane Gertrude May Dunford of Glassllwch Crescent, Risca Rd., Newport. d) By an assent, a piece of land with carpenter's shop and e piece of land with shed thereon (part of the above property) was vested in W.L.R.S and Albert Henry Squibbs. 30 Apr 1881

 D1670/77 Conditional Surrender Moses John Squibbs of par. Caldicot, co. Mon., grocer came before George Carwardine Francis, steward of the manor of Caldicot and Newton and, in consideration of £450 paid to Isabella Mary Talbot of Mounton near Chepstow, co. Mon., wife of John Talbot of Chepstow, farmer, heiress and representative of William Hay Toye, late of Chepstow, solicitor, dec'd., by Charles Bevan of Bristol, gent. by the direction of M.J.S. and also in consideration of £150 paid by C.B. to M.J.S. and out of court surrendered to the lord of the said manor (property and former occupation, see D1670/74) and in the occupation of John Westall, Richard Thomas, William Reece, William Hammonds and William James as tenants to M.J.S. (se plan to D1670/73), to the use of C.B.; with a proviso that if M.J.S. pays to C.B. £600 on 21 Dec., 1886, with interest at 5%, this surrender to be void. 31 Aug 1886 

 D1670/78 Mortgage 1) Moses John Squibbs of par. Caldicot, co. Mon., Grocer. 2) Robert Squibbs of par. Caldicot, tax collector, (1) and Alfred Cooper of par. Caldicot, schoolmaster. Consideration £500. 1) agrees to pay to (2) on 6 April, 1891 the sum of £500 with interest at 4% and to surrender to the lord of the manor of Caldicot a property in par. Caldicot (see D1670/71), to stand charged for the repayment of the said sum. 31 Dec 1890 

 D1670/79 Mortgage 17 Mar 1892 1) Robert Squibbs of par. Caldicot, co. Mon., tax collector. 2) Ellen Louisa Lovell of Cranfield, co. Bedford, widow. Consideration £150. (1) agrees to pay to (2) on 17 Sep 1892 the sum of £150 with interest, at 5% and grants to (2) a messuage, outbuildings, gardens, orchard, land and hereditaments in par. Redwick, co. Mon. and in the occupation of John Gale. With a schedule of the property. Also on this indenture: Mortgage 6 Nov 1897 1) Moses John Robert Hembrow Squibbs of par. Caldicot, co. Mon., grocer. 2) Ellen Louisa Lovell (aforesaid). Recites will of Robert Squibbs (aforesaid) dated 24 Jan 1894, devising to (1) all his real and personal estate and effects and appointing him sole executor; death of Robert Squibbs on 18 Mar., 1895; probate of the said will on 8 Nov. 1895; the principal secured in the above mortgage of 17 Mar., 1892 remaining due.  D1670/81 Warrant Frederick Brittan of Gwynfryn Taliesin, co. Card., doctor of medicine and Frederick Fox Cartwright of Bristol, solicitor, executors of the will of Charles Bevan of Bristol, gent. (who died 21 Dec., 1889), dated 16 May, 1888 and proved 11 Feb., 1890, acknowledges receipt from Moses John Squibbs of par. Caldicot, co. Mon., wife of John Talbot, farmer, customary heiress and personal representative of William Hay Toye, late of Chepstow, solicitor (who died intestate on 1 May, 1885), she having received letters of administration on 8 July 1885, acknowledges receipt from Charles Bevan of Bristol., by the direction of Moses John Squibbs of par. Caldicot, co.
