Biographical/Historical note
Miners’ lodges (governed by a lodge committee) each represented a colliery or pit, and were the local branches of the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) which was formed in 1945, and its predecessor, the Miners' Federation of Great Britain, formed in 1888. The NUM (South Wales branch) had succeeded the South Wales Miners' Federation. Crumlin Navigation Lodge represented Crumlin Navigation Colliery.
