Biographical/Historical note
In 1879 a meeting was held at Ebbw Vale Institute with the purpose of forming a cricket club. The grounds were originally known as Dobbs Fields and were also used for football matches. A pavillion was built and completed in 1920. An indoor cricket school was opened in 1963.
In 1918, the Ebbw Vale Steel Company created a sports welfare scheme and purchased the assets of the Cricket Club. The scheme came to an end in 1923, due to the post-war depresssion, and a new welfare scheme for the town was created. In due course, this scheme came to an end and a public trust was created; in 1987 administration of the grounds was transferred to the local authority.
