Biographical/Historical note
Moriah, or Moria, Baptist Chapel, Risca, opened in 1818. As most of the members of the chapel were Welsh-speaking, services were usually in Welsh.
An increase in the congregation necessitated an extension to the original building which was completed in 1836.
A detailed history of Moriah Baptist Chapel is given in "A View from the Hill: A History of Risca and Moriah Baptist Church," by J.H.A. Roberts (Cwmbran Community Press, 1986).
