Biographical/Historical note
One World Link (South Wales) was a charity formed in County Hall, Cwmbran, in 1984 in response to publicity about the Ethiopian famine which had begun the previous year. Its aims, stated in its consitutions, were "to relieve poverty and sickness throughout the Third World," and "to educate ourselves about life, culture and countries of the Developing World."
Numerous fund-raising events and appeals were held in South Wales, helping to provide goods, including school-equipment and clothing, as well as money. In addition, there was a regular "Pound a Month" donation scheme.During its lifetime, One World Link assisted a group of nuns, the Sisters of Charity, in providing education, housing and improved opportunities for children and adults in Ethiopia, and sponsored a teacher as well as a carpenter.
The charity ceased to exist in 1999.
