D3718/1 J[osiah] J[ohn] Guest, Dowlais Works, [Glam.], to John Llewelyn esq. of PWLL Y PANT [par, Bedwas, Mon.]. Is unable to keep the appointment to view the mineral property at CWMSYCHAN [par. Trevethin, Mon.], as he is required to attend legal proceedings in London. In order not to further delay Mr. Griffiths he must now ‘positively give up all thoughts of it’. Requests JL’s assistance with several points of litigation involving Lord Bute. Copy note by JL to Wm Griffiths informing him that JG cannot keep the appointment. 8 Feb 1825-9 Feb 1825

D3718/4 John Llewellin of [Abercarne House], Abercarn, Mon., to his wife Mrs Nancy Llewellin at Norton Hall, Bridgend [?Glam.]. Concern over the injuries sustained by Thomas should not lead her to such anxiety that will harm her health. He has been well attended to by the surgeon and there is ‘every hope that my poor dear Boy will soon be well again’. JL must meet Mr Hopper, the architect, at Llanover on Wednesday, following Mr [Benjamin] Hall’s visit, therefore John or James will go to Newport with the gig to meet NL for her return. Mrs. Waddington is seriously ill and Mrs. Hall has sent for Davies of Bedwas to visit her immediately. 14 Sep 1834

D3718/6  Richard Howell of RHIWFELAN [Llantrisant, Glam.], to John Llewellin of Abercarne [Mon.]. Encloses £15 for one years interest due to Mrs. Rees. The Bursar of Jesus College and the Society approve of JL’s report on the coal levels belonging to them under TY MAEN [farm], ? at MAES MAWR [near Talybont, Brec.] and recommend unanimously that RH and JL arrange to lease the workings to Mr. Insole. Suggests that JL’s son William undertakes a further survey of the coal workings before an agreement is concluded. JL copy reply that William should go to Maesmawr in about a fortnight and that JL would discuss the terms at Rhiwfelan before meeting Mr. Insole. 22 Jul 1839-24 Jul 1839

D3718/7 Lewis Morgan, The Hafod, Newbridge (Pontypridd) [Glam.], to William Llewellin esq., Abercarn House, [Abercarn, Mon.]. Is sorry that WL and his wife were unable to visit on Saturday, particularly as Mrs. Rees and Mrs. Coffin had also arrived from Lanilid [mid-Glam.]. Requests that WL does not visit until after next week because ‘aunt and myself mean to start for ? Pantarwane [Pant-y-waun], Breconshire. WL’s brother Thomas should obtain a legal opinion with regard to Mr. Insole’s bridge, ‘the sooner the better, or the parties will laugh at us’. The position respecting the Hadley’s must also be discussed soon. An outbreak of cholera in Newbridge claimed the lives of six people last week, much to the alarm of the neighbourhood. 10 Oct 1849
