Biographical/Historical note

The Fortune family was a long established family in Usk and Monmouth. The Fortune family includes Moore Fortune (d. 1640, dsp?), tutor at Oxford University, rector of Panteg from 1612 and vicar of Usk from 1621 till his death, and his brothers William Fortune (fl. c. 1615) and Walter Fortune (fl. 1640). A later generation included Walter Fortune (d. 1695) and his brother John Fortune (fl. 1694-95), who appear to have been lawyers.
