Biographical/Historical note

The Baptist College began when Abergavenny Academy was founded in 1807, in Abergavenny, Monmouthshire by the Rev. Micah Thomas (1778-1853) who acted as president until 1835. In 1836, a new college was opened in Pontypool, Monmouthshire. In 1893, the college was removed to Cardiff, Glamorgan, where a hostel in Richmond Road, previously used for women students attending the university was acquired. The College students were able to attend Cardiff University (formerly University College of Wales Cardiff). The South Wales Baptist College continued to educate Baptist ministers throughout the 20th century.
