Biographical/Historical note

R.J. Maddocks was an Independent candidate for the Risca UDC by-election of 1959, and a Conservative Party candidate (for the Abertillery constituency, Monmouthshire)for the parliamentary general election campaign of 1959 and a Conservative Party candidate for ( for the Caerphilly parliamentary constituency, Glamorgan) for the general election campaigns of 1964 and 1966.

At the time of the deposit of the Maddocks papers in 1972 it is indicated that the correspondence files therein [ of D. Millard re premises in Shirenewton and Kelly v Plaid Cymru ' Welsh Nation' newspaper Llys Nedd Investments Ltd, dated 1967-1968], were not to be made available for research. No restrictions were placed on other records, and the former may reflect a standard 30 year rule closure practice for correspondence. Please also refer to Gwent Archives policy document on closure periods, available at www.gwentarchives.gov.uk
