Biographical/Historical note
The Women's Institute movement was formed in 1915 with two clear aims: to revitalise rural communities and to encourage women to become more involved in producing food during the First World War. Govilon WI was established in 1919 (one of four set up in this year in Monmouthshire, these being the earliest in the county)
As of 2013, the branch is still operating
