Biographical/Historical note

These are the family papers of Miss Muriel Davies of St. Mellons. Miss Davies lived from 1888-1985, first at Greenfield and later at " Landscape", a cottage, in Old St. Mellons. The Davies family were farmers, and owned the Greenfield estate in St. Mellons.

 D596/1 Copy Court Roll Manor of Rompney Surrender and Admittance (1) George Collins, gent. (2) Thomas Collins, yeoman, par. St Mellons. 5 acres customary land in the commote and par. of Rumney, bounded on the W. by lands of the manor, on the S. by lands belonging to Illiah Hadcok, on the E. by lands of Ann Meredith, and on the N. by lands of the late William Thomas. Fine 3/4 p. acre. Memorandum that George Collins had that day borrowed £80 from William Thomas of Coed Kernew and that William Thomas shall be seized of the property until the mortgage has been repaid. 7 Aug 1779
