Biographical/Historical note
The Methodist Circuit is part of the organisational structure of Wesleyan Methodism, comprising two or more churches under a Superintendent Minister and with other ministers according to the number of members. Preaching appointments for ministers and local preachers are organised by the Circuits and advertised on a Circuit Plan. Circuits are usually named after the town or village that is the Head of the Circuit. Above this in the organisational structure, the Circuits are grouped into Districts, which form the 'Methodist Connexion' or national Methodist church under the authority of the Methodist Conference.
