Biographical/Historical note
The documents were personal records of the Rowlands family of Ebbw Vale.
National registration identity cards were issued in the UK during both world wars. Following the National Registration Act of 1939, cards were issued to all adults and children. The cards had to be produced upon request within 48 hours.
Registration cards were finally abolished in 1952.
Michael Foot was a labour politician who was leader of the Labour party from 1980-1983. He was MP for Blaenau Gwent from 1945-1955 and from 1960 until his retirement in 1992.
In 1967, one of the "Songs of Praise" television programmes was recorded in Ebbw Vale.
